Interior designers are sharing insights through the latest interior design trends for 2022 that sustainability and a greater connection with nature will be at the heart of many of the biggest decor ideas this year.
This desire to be closer to the natural world and incorporate it into our homes is reflected in this year’s interior paint color trends being unveiled by big names in the paint industry too.
WHAT’S TREND THEN?
1- CUSTOM CABINETS – FUNCIONALITY
Designers are focusing on crafting spaces that are both creative and utilitarian, giving home chefs the best of both worlds—a space that functions and looks good while doing it. In fact, Houzz’s 2022 U.S Kitchen Trends Study showed that the popularity of built-in specialty organizers is only increasing, with more than half of homeowners upgrading their space with storage solutions.
2- COUNTER TOP BACKPLASH
Into 2022, designers and homeowners are taking every opportunity to imbue a space with personality, a perspective that will extend beyond cabinet colors and hardware finishes into bold, attention-grabbing countertop materials. Houzz’s study recently reported that over one-third of homeowners completing a home kitchen renovation or design chose to splurge on their countertops, with quartz and granite among the most popular materials.
3- GREEN IS HERE TO STAY
If the announcements from leading paint companies on their 2022 colors of the year have any indication (PPG, Sherwin-Williams, and Valspar all chose shades of green), bringing the beauty of the outdoors in will remain a key design element for kitchens in 2022. Whether you prefer a moody, muted green like Sherwin-Williams’s Evergreen Fog, Valspar’s pretty and pastel Blanched Thyme, or PPG’s energizing Olive Sprig, the future is looking bright for green interiors, and that’s especially true for the kitchen.
4- COLORS AND MORE COLORS
Color, color, and more color was a resounding prediction from our designers. Avery Frank says he’s currently working on four kitchen projects and every client said they didn’t want white cabinetry. Benjamin Johnston says clients are tired of being restricted to a white kitchen and are looking to make a more powerful statement in this important space.
5- OPEN CONCEPT
Open-concept kitchens are great for entertaining and multitasking, so it’s no surprise that they’re trendy. The open-plan concept is contingent on space, but generally, People is still seeing a desire for open floor plans
